Rafael Gayol – OLD IDEAS WORLD TOUR
Master timekeeper Rafael Gayol’s first big break came in 1988 when Robbie Robertson invited him to play in a band Robertson was putting together to perform at the San Remo Festival in Italy that year. Over the course of the festival Rafael met the members of the Norwegian band A-ha who invited him to tour with them as their percussionist.
Rafael next took over the drum chair for the Bodeans, whom he played with from 1989 through 1992. For the next fourteen years Rafael lived in Austin, Texas, recording and touring with the likes of Charlie Sexton, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Kelly Willis, Joe Ely, Bob Schneider, Tito and Tarantula, film director Robert Rodriguez and The Flatlanders with whom he shared a Grammy nomination.
Gayol has also done a fair bit of voice-over work and has played drums on the soundtracks to a number of films including "Sin City," "Kill Bill 2" and “Macheté.” Rafael also has a solo work entitled Waiting For Buddha.
“I am very honoured to have the opportunity to work with Leonard in his continual musical experience. To have a contribution to Live In London, Songs From The Road and Old Ideas is a privilege I embrace with utmost care. And I’ve always got his back.”
