Commander Cohen
DECEMBER 14, 2000
Columbia Records will end a three-year drought of Leonard Cohen releases when 'Field Commander Cohen: Tour Of 1979' hits the shelves on Tuesday February 20, 2001.

This collection features such Cohen classics as "The Smokey Life," "The Gypsy's Wife," "The Stranger Song" and "So Long, Marianne." Recorded during stops on his '79 U.K. tour at London's Hammersmith Odeon and Brighton's Dome Theatre, the cuts resonate with Cohen's trademark live aura.

Warm, dark and piercingly beautiful, this record captures the essence of the Leonard Cohen concert experience.

"Leonard Cohen Portrait" will be shown at the International Festival of Film of Art of Montreal on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 p.m. at the Office National du Film and on Sunday, March 15 at 10:30 p.m. at the Goethe Institute.

Music, Poetry, and Buddhism
DECEMBER 9, 1997
"Over his forty-year career, Cohen has achieved two rare distinctions: fame as a poet and endurance as a pop star. But he's been largely out of the public eye since 1993, after he released his popular album 'The Future,' as well as 'Stranger Music,' his best selling book since 'Beautiful Losers.' He now divides his time between Mount Baldy, a Rinzai Buddhist mountain retreat about an hour north of the city (Los Angeles,) and his own two-story house close to a downtown temple in the neighbourhood of Crenshaw."

Read the full feature on Leonard Cohen titled "Life On Mount Baldy" by Bruce Headlam in Saturday Night magazine.

Valerie Pringle interviews Leonard Cohen tonight on CTV's W5.

Journalist John Allemang reviews the interview in his column in today's Globe and Mail. "The Cohen interview is a treat, largely because of the songwriter-poet's easy intelligence and rich bass voice (so much more musical than his croakings in song)."
